What to use for check marriage status florida

Florida Department of Health says marriage certificates from June 6, 1927 to present that were recorded by the clerk are available through the Bureau of Vital Statistics. Florida DOH says a marriage less than about sixty days old may require contacting the county clerk that issued the license because state filing can take time.

Search for a Florida marriage record

  1. 01
    Gather both spouses’ names

Use names associated with the marriage.

Use application DH261 linked in Sources. Provide both spouses’ names before first marriage, their birth dates, marriage date or year range, marriage city/county and license county. Include your name, mailing address, phone, relationship to the people on the record and signature.

  2. 02
Add date and county if known

    These narrow the search.

  3. 03
    Choose state or county route

Recent or older records can require the clerk.

For direct service, mail DH261 with a check or money order payable to Vital Statistics to Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, P.O. Box 210, Jacksonville, FL 32231-0042; do not mail cash. Walk-in service is at 1217 N. Pearl St., Jacksonville, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Direct orders start with a nonrefundable $5 search for one calendar year and one certified copy; additional copies are $4, with a $1 shipping/handling fee listed for mailed orders. If the exact year is unknown, specify a year range: additional search years cost $2 each, up to a $50 search fee.

Online ordering uses DOH’s contracted VitalChek route linked from the official page. The first-certificate Bureau charge is $15, including a $10 rush fee, plus VitalChek’s $7 processing fee. Extra copies are $4 each. Standard USPS delivery has no additional vendor shipping charge; UPS costs extra.

If no record is found, the Bureau issues a certified no-record statement. The search fee is retained; fees for additional copies can be refunded on written request.

Normal processing for computer certificates from 1970 onward is 3–5 business days, excluding shipping. Earlier records take longer; same-day walk-in service for pre-1970/photocopy records, when available, requires the $10 rush fee.

  4. 04
Use the certificate for what it proves

Do not infer a person’s current relationship status from one historical record alone.
